All you have to do is keep the gardens clean and attractive by performing basic maintenance activities like picking up litter, pulling weeds, and installing new mulch. Since the gardens capture their own water, they don’t require much maintenance!

​Be sure to pick up dog poop whenever you walk your dog. It’s just as important to pick it up on trails as it is on the sidewalk throughout the entire year!

Instead of using phosphorus-based fertilizer, try aerating your lawn and using compost as an alternative. It will keep your lawn healthy and green and reduce the amount of chemicals that find their way into our lakes, rivers and streams.

During the summer months, you may wash your car at home to save money. But washing your car in the driveway or on the street will send soapy water directly into storm drains.

Instead, try washing it on a grassy area to help reduce the amount of detergents and cleaning agents entering the drains, keeping Vermont’s lakes and rivers clean.
