Adopt a Rain Garden!

Rain gardens are more than just beautiful additions to our landscapes – they play a crucial role in managing stormwater runoff and improving water quality in our communities. By capturing and treating rainwater where it falls, these gardens help reduce flooding and mitigate the impact of storms.

We are excited to invite you to participate in the Adopt-a-Rain Garden Program, a great opportunity for individuals, groups, and organizations to help maintain and care for publicly-owned rain gardens across the Lake Champlain watershed in Chittenden County. By volunteering, you’ll help keep these important green spaces functional and visually appealing, all while benefiting the environment.

Who can participate?

The program is open to individuals, neighborhood associations, schools, businesses, civic groups, service organizations, and more! Whether you’re a solo gardener or part of a larger team, there’s a way for you to get involved.

What does the commitment involve?

Volunteers perform basic maintenance activities, such as:

  • Picking up litter
  • Pulling weeds
  • Installing new mulch

What are the benefits of adopting a rain garden?

You’ll help improve the beauty and value of Chittenden County’s neighborhoods. It’s a fun way to get outdoors and enjoy gardening during the warmer months. Proper maintenance of rain gardens directly contributes to cleaner water, reduced flooding, and a healthier environment.
