Rain gardens are more than just beautiful additions to our landscapes—they play a vital role in managing stormwater runoff and improving water quality. By capturing and treating rainwater where it falls, rain gardens help reduce flooding, protect waterways, and support a healthier environment.
The Adopt-a-Rain Garden Program is a great opportunity for individuals, groups, and organizations to help maintain publicly-owned rain gardens across the Lake Champlain watershed in Chittenden County. Volunteers help keep these spaces functional and attractive by performing simple maintenance like picking up litter, pulling weeds, and refreshing mulch.
Who can participate? Anyone!
The program is open to individuals, schools, neighborhood associations, civic groups, service organizations, and businesses—whether you’re gardening solo or with a team. Maintaining a rain garden is a rewarding way to get outside, care for your community, and directly contribute to cleaner water and greener neighborhoods.
