The Stream Team made an appearance at the Burlington Art Hop during the first weekend in September. Local artist Terence Jones painted a mural just in front of the SEABA offices on Pine Street, across from the Maltex building, go check it out!
The mural was created to raise awareness for our Adopt-a-Drain program. It represents both education and action, encouraging community members to clean and monitor local storm drains to prevent pollution from entering our waterways.
Although rain on Saturday delayed the mural’s completion, Terence Jones was able to finish it in style, adding the Rethink Runoff stencil next to the artwork. It was an awesome live mural painting event where Art Hop attendees could stop by and watch the process in real time.

Want to do more to protect our waterways?
Rethink Runoff has partnered with Hamline University to manage the Adopt-a-Drain in Chittenden County. Currently, the program has been adopted by five municipalities including Burlington, Colchester, Essex Town, Essex Junction, and Milton. It’s a simple way to make a big impact. Residents can “adopt” a storm drain in their neighborhood and commit to keeping it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris. This helps reduce water pollution and prevents local flooding.
Once you sign up, you’ll adopt a specific drain and periodically clean it. You can then report your cleaning activities online, contributing to a cleaner, healthier watershed. Now’s the perfect time to get involved—fall leaf litter and debris are clogging up drain grates! Volunteers choose how frequently to clear their drain and report how much debris is collected. They receive a welcome packet, small yard sign, and the clever perk of getting to name a drain
