Welcome our New Conservation Specialist

Lucas Goldfluss is the most recent addition to the WNRCD staff. Lucas has been passionate about conservation and natural resource protection from a young age, as he and his twin brother would never miss a chance to discover new wildlife, climb trees, and swim in rivers all across New England. Lucas has worked various jobs in the environmental conservation field including interning at the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission where he developed an interest in water quality. Lucas attended the University of Vermont, Rubenstein School for Environment and Natural Resources and upon completion of his Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies with a minor in Geospatial Technologies in 2023, he packed his bags and booked it out to Plumas National Forest in beautiful Northern California. Working temporarily as a recreation and GIS technician with the Great Basin Institute on the Mt. Hough Ranger District led Lucas to gain expertise in land management and spatial analysis. Soon after his time with the Forest Service, Lucas was inspired to put his expertise into practice back home in the green mountains.

Lucas relocated to Chittenden County, working with the VT DEC Lakes and Ponds program which gave him the opportunity to be back on Lake Champlain and work with a community he cared so deeply about. While seasonally contracted with the DEC, Lucas led shoreline restoration efforts, bioengineering design, and community action projects in the Northern Lake Champlain region.

Through Lucas’ career choices, his passion and commitment to conservation and water quality protection has helped him identify his own personal goals to increase resilience in Vermont. Lucas looks forward to this next chapter with the WNRCD leading programs such as Rethink Runoff, Trees for Streams, and Storm Smart. Lucas enjoys mountain biking, hiking, photography, playing soccer, and being outdoors with his friends and family.
